Electromagnetic Pulse Simulation Studies Final Report This is the final report for the work performed under Purchase Order No. 901074 for the Wichita Division of the Boeing Company and for the Air Force Weapons Laboratory under prime contract F34601-71-C-0131. The five month work period originally specified was later extended to six and one-half months —ending 30 April 1972. According to the provisions of the work statement in the purchase order, the Radiation Laboratory was to perform two tasks as follows: (1) construct a mathematical model of a radiating dipole sensitive to various kinds of resistive loading distribution and (2) determine the effect of near-source geometry of an EMP antenna on the time behavior of the radiated pulse from a surface discontinuity. Our work on the resistively loaded dipole was reported in two technical memos: No. RL010748-2-T Numerical Investigation of Waveforms Radiated by a Pulse Excited Resistively Loaded Linear Antenna. No. RL 010748-3-T Analytical Investigation of Waveforms Radiated by a Resistively Loaded Linear Antenna Excited by a Gaussian Pulse. Copies of these memos were sent to Boeing on 18 May 1972. These memos have been reviewed by Dr. Carl E. Baum of the Weapons System Laboratory, Kirtland Air Force Base, As a result of Dr. Baum's comment, the material contained in these two memos, with some additional data, will be used for a technical note to be issued later by the Weapons System Laboratory. Our work on the surface discontinuity was reported in a technical memo: No. RL010748-1-T Modified Biconical Antennas. This memo has been reviewed by Dr. Baum and it will be published as a technical note by the Weapons System Laboratory in the near future. Copies of this memo were forwarded to Boeing on 12 April 1972.

For convenience the abstracts of these three reports are included as a part of this final report. 2
