016711-b-Q 017681-5-Q QUARTERLY PROGRESS REPORT 1 December 1979 to 29 February 1980 TECHNICAL In the last report it was noted that an outdoor bistatic scattering range had been developed and constructed, but that preliminary testing had shown the sensitivity to be much less than is necessary for measuring the X-band scattering cross sections of the small scale model missiles for which the range was intended. During the last three months the funds remaining in the Contract have been expended in testing and improving the individual components of the system to increase the sensitivity. Considerable progress has been made, and from the test runs that have been made using 100 psec pulses at 8.07 GHz, it would appear that the minimum cross section that can be measured is of order -25 dBm2. A final report describing the work accomplished under the Contract has been written, and will be sent as soon as data which is indicative of the system's performance can be included in the report. ADMINISTRATIVE The only salaries charged to the Contract have been those of the principal investigator (Professor Senior), the research engineer in charge of the outdoor range (Mr. J. E. Ferris), a secretary, and graduate students/technicians. There has been no travel.
