Abstract
Deadly collisions between vehicles and people or
between vehicles are a fact of urban life. A geometric approach to
reducing the potential for collisions rests on using the symmetry of
the underlying street pattern to sort antagonistic flows into separate
channels and on disrupting that symmetry to refine the separation to
the level of bicyclist and pedestrian. This disruption is part of a
non-Euclidean, hyperbolic street geometry.
