Perry winning awards as Rose Bowl approaches

 
As the Wolverines prepare for a classic Rose Bowl showdown with #1 Southern Cal, running back Chris Perry '04 won the Doak Walker Award as the top college running back and was voted 4th best player in the nation in the Heisman Trophy balloting.
 

University Library mounts Bible history exhibit

 
The illustration depicting the evangelist Luke is in the U-M Library's "From Papyri to the King James Bible" exhibit. The manuscript on vellum contains the four Gospels in Greek, a Byzantine monastic product from the 11th or 12 century AD. The exhibit in the Special Collections Library of the Hatcher Library will run through Jan. 31.

The German composer Gernot Blume '98 PhD was preparing for a traditional career in the Western classical tradition. But then he heard Irish music, which launched him on an ongoing musical journey into the music of Bulgaria, India, Indonesia, Ghana, America and beyond.

U-M leading effort to link low-income families to Internet

  Low-income families could receive broadband wireless fidelity (WiFi) Internet service for $100 per year–an annual savings of at least $380 compared with DSL rates.

Michigan Radio to debut "Stateside"program Jan. 5

 
Michigan Radio, the U-M's public radio stations, will debut a new show "Stateside" on Jan. 5, 2004 with Charity Nebbe hosting. It is scheduled to air weekdays at 1 p.m. The one-hour program will feature interviews, features and reports that share perspectives that are "uniquely Michigan," Nebbe says.

  The U-M Entertainment Coalition is a new alumni/ae group that unites Wolverines in the film, theater, TV and music fields. UMEC is calling for competitors in its Short Film Festival in May 2004 in LA.
