Theme Semester: 1954 Brown v. Board of Education desegregation case
  The University will focus on the historic school desegregation case of 50 years ago in courses, lectures, films, symposiums, exhibits and lectures. A featured event this month is legal scholar Lani Guinier's Jan. 19. keynote address for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Symposium at 10 a.m. in Hill Auditorium.

  “Consumers expected a stronger economy to create more jobs during the year ahead,” Richard Curtin, director of U-M’s Surveys of Consumers, said. Retailers, however, "viewed the increased optimism as a reason to cut discounts, and as a result caused consumers to reduce their purchases.”
