Post-IRB Notes - Raj 3.7.08 =========================== "Grand Rounds" differ by department. * internal medicine = mostly faculty presenting esoteric research * family medicine = approaches to clinical problems * peds = varies * clinical pathology = case based (CPC or MNM); usually "what went wrong" Grand Rounds; once monthly Will there be general interest * faculty members = older; don't blog; reticence about wiki/pedia/anon commenting (validity?) * need a younger audience * what is the back-end going to provide? * how is it going to facilitate exchange? Raj Recommends: go to some grand rounds * our new idea is very divergent from our original purpose * case stuff--> residents and staff only Morning Reports ASIDE: Chair of Alumni Society Jim Hayes Rather than pose as a GR repository, pose as a collection of cases in an organized location People don't go back to review Grand Rounds research topix--not valuable (too specialized, competition) Think about content (case vs. research talks) not format (Grand Rounds) Is Casepedia just an experiment? Central repository of "Case Conferences'--recognizable term; don't use the world "Grand Rounds" Chief Residents of each department: * built into leadership * run the conferences * case-finders (trolling) * have some role in coordination/scheduling * young * BUT ephemeral = 1 year shift * more accessible than faculty; a lot more accessible than department heads * could be hard to find contact info--> Call depts and ask who their chiefs this year are Most rewarding element of their job = education * case conferences = Mornign Reports * some use ppt * images, lab scans (all digital) * very dept, even individual-specific Case Conferences From: * Morning Reports = internal * Occasinal Grand Rounds (mostly reasearch, though) * Quality Improvement Conferences (MNM)--> mostly closed; adverse events where ppl screwed up Definitely a need for a user friendly repository for multimedia items May get reluctance for morning reports as it would represent extra work (potentially)--> ppl use whiteboards, index cards, paper Raj's "Morning Report Machine" c. 1997 Every dept has a listserv for chiefs Internal Medicine * Amanda Osta adnewton * Nicholas Slocum nslocum
