Structured Interviews ===================== NOTE: the Structured Interview and Recruitment Materials have been changed post-IRB Exemption. The exemption letter is pretty explicit that, as long as our project remains within the scope of the exemption criteria we selected (no identification of subjects, no potential for harm if disclosed), our project is exempt from ongoing IRB review. See Grouphub Files for Exemption Letter. * Internal Medicine Grand Rounds from Rupa; James Auge jauge@umich.edu * Cancer Center Grand Rounds coordinator: Mary Greene at 4-1549 = not very nice referred to: Mary K Rexer-Bluhm (Director of Research Admin, Cancer Ctr) maryrex@med.umich.edu spoke to secretary LaSheryl Wicker (6-9603) who recommended email sent email: 3.3.08 --> out of office until 3.5 * Psychiatry Grand Rounds coordinator: Courtney Carr (2-0175) = very nice -just took over grand rounds for psych -recommend ppts sent before grand rounds -every week is different -GR are open to staff, students, faculty, external personnel -some weeks are staff/faculty only (rare) referred to: Steve Taylor (Chair of Psychiatry Grand Rounds) sftaylor@umich.edu (6-4955) called - in a mtg; sent email 3.3.08 * Surgery Grand Rounds Joanne M Hoeft sends out emails (Executive Assistant, Surgery Department, Medical School) johoeft@umich.edu 6-3236 - she puts together a monthly schedule; but each section is responsbile for their own GRs (Cardiac, General, Maxillofacial, Pediatric, Plastic, Thoracic, Vascular) - every week is different: interal speakers, external, awards ceremonies, etc. - all Surgery GR are taped and put online - to open access/change procedure, would need to talk to Chair of Surgery Dept. Some key features might include: - making grand rounds presentations available online across departments, encouraging collaboration & translational research - very user friendly system - it would take powerpoint presentations, video/audio, images, text, whatever; no extra work involved - a searchable database of past and future Grand Rounds - raise the profile of departments and the UMHS. Univ of Iowa's Ophthalmology Department has a website similar to what we're trying to accomplish (http://webeye.ophth.uiowa.edu/eyeforum/). The website receives thousands of hits per day from over 40 countries. So I'm looking to speak with some people in different UMHS departments to see if there is any interest and, if so, what features are most/least attractive. I thought you might know some people that would be good to talk to. Let me know if you have any suggestions and keep me updated on the Progress on Pauline :-) RESPONSE: As for your idea, I think it's a great one. I could almost guarantee that the anesthesia department would be interested. I was thinkiing that you could contact Chris Turner, from anesthesiology who is the chair of the QA department for interest, and then Chris Dickinson who is one of the associate chiefs of staff for the hospital. I actually work for him with patient safety. He's a great guy, enthusiastic and could hook you up with various medical divisions. He has presented many times for the peds grand rounds section. I would drop both a line with your intent, vision, along with the link for them to view. Debbie
