The Pitch (to UMHS Departments) ================================ The Elevator Pitch We are a university funded, interdisciplinary research team of public health, bioinformatics, and health informatics graduate students creating a prototype for a rich tool to provide the UMHS community access to university-wide Grand Rounds presentations. The web site we are prototyping will provide robust search of video and powerpoint presentations across specialties. We believe that a high-volume repository that is easily accessible and searchable will enhance knowledge sharing and encourage collaboration among participating departments. We are not asking participating departments to change anything related to their process of capturing Grand Rounds: we will use any type of presentation you can provide. As information specialists we believe we can add significant value to these documented presentations. In addition our team includes experts in design and usability; be assured that the site will be easy to use. The initial prototype will be complete by late April; if successful we hope to build the site and have it hosted by UMHS. Main Points * makes grand rounds available online (Office of Enabling Technologies supported) * allows collaboration between departments (translational) * raises profile of department * not asking for anything additional; we use what you give us Laundry List * central repository for all UMHS * event calendar for future * take pre-existing grand rounds cases * use as a sandbox for future presentations * guide/suggestions for those who have never presented in grand rounds before * submit powerpoint presentations, abstracts, videos or text outline * user-friendly - adding value to what you already have; not extra work * post before the talk - let ppl decide whether or not to go * incorporate video (Bluestream transcription for search) * images, audio, text * page templates - make submitting cases easy * searchable database * taggable by users * classify by specialty & specify keywords * look at "most viewed" * personal account * present custom user-interface * commenting on cases - forum format * reportable - allow users to identify inappropriate content * can edit/change the content * collaborative capabilities/ editing permission to multiple users * export text to powerpoint & store online * Edit/update user profile * the "owner" of the site can allow access to others for specific files System Functions * “Powered by UMHS Enabling Technologies” - sustainable * Authenticate users - Kerberos password, or more * Maintain user profiles (identities) * Ensure consent or de-identification of cases * Authorize users to publish cases (credentialing w/Cactus) Questions * is there a department structure required? * are ppl required to submit powerpoints for presentations already? * are there privacy issues?
