The standard internal rate of return methodology is modified to account for high failure rates and educational screening common in many LDCs. When the modified procedure is applied to the Ivory Coast, estimated educational returns fell by 25 to 50 percent. These results suggest that rates of return to education in LDCs estimated using the standard methodology may greatly exaggerate its true economic value.en_US
