Abstract: A group of neuroscientists at the Institute of Neuroscience, University of Oregon, use what is rapidly becoming a new standard embryological preparation, the zebra fish (Fig. 1), an animal that develops rapidly and is small and optically clear. Five recent papers from this group are summarized below; they deal with the onset of developmental restrictions, pathfinding by motor axons, and the development of the lateral line placode.
