Abstract: Over the last twenty years, it has become clear that the organizations of the telencephala of birds and mammals are more similar than was once realized. Recently, Divac and Mogenson have proposed that pigeons possess a telencephalic region that corresponds both anatomically and functionally to mammalian prefrontal cortex. Although this idea requires further experimental scrutiny, it raises the possibility that prefrontal cortex may not be unique to mammals.
