Abstract: We describe the design and performance of prototype trigger counters for the SDC muon system. The 1.0 x 48.7 x 178.7 cm scintillation counters feature compact light guides, use standard 2 in. phototubes, and provide good photoelectron yields (>25) and time resolution (< 1 ns).
