dc.description.abstractThe separation energy of a strongly bound nucleon from a light or medium-weight nucleus has been calculated in terms of a general two-body nucleon-nucleon interaction potential. It is assumed that the nuclear wave function can be approximated by a linear combination of a few Slater determinants. Single-particle wave functions are approximated by harmonic oscillator wave functions. Simple formulae, which contain only a few potential matrix elements, are derived for the separation energies and numerical results are presented for several choices of the nucleon-nucleon interaction potential.en_US
