Cornus canadensis is a relatively common understory herb in damp habitats, especially cedar swamps, bogs, mixed and coniferous woods and moist jack pine plains. Its range includes most counties throughout Michigan, except for 10 in the southeast section of the lower peninsula (Voss, 1985). ... Cornus canadensis, like other understory clonal perennials, tends to rely heavily on vegetative propagation by rhizomes for colonization of habitat. The purpose of this project was to investigate the rhizomes and underground parts of C. canadensis in order to glean any information regarding the clonal nature of this plant.en_US
