Two species of peatmoss, Sphagnum squarrosum and S. capillifolium were collected to see if differences in characteristic diatom assemblages could be observed. Since S. squarrosum is indicative of mineral rich Thuja swamps and S. capillifolium of acid bogs, it was thought that there would be a greater diversity and species richness of diatoms associated with S. squarrosum. Results were inconclusive due to lack of appropriate replication and trends were contrary to the hypothesis.en_US
