Dulichium arundinaceum, in the family Cyperaceae, is a tall, rhizomatous, sedge with hollow, jointed, leafy stems. The leaves are perfectly three-ranked with the upper leaves having axillary, perfect flowers with three stamens. The fruit is an achene which is 2.5-3 mm long and with a long, slender beak. My investigation into the habits of this plant proved to be very interesting. I observed its growth patterns and at several sites, the pH of the surrounding water. Its associates were various with several overlapping at different sites. The abundance of species growing with Dulichium were very different at different sites. Its growth habits changed from site to site, sometimes it was confined to a single area and other times it was robustly growing everywhere. My observations were at sites in Emmet, Cheboygan, Presque Isle, and Alger counties.en_US
