The system of kettle-hole bogs in northern Michigan is second only to the waters and dunes of the Great Lakes when it comes to important Michigan ecosystems. Kettle-hole bogs are common to the Great Lakes and extremely important to the landscape of northern lower Michigan in particular. The kettle-hole bogs that dot northern lower Michigan are a huge repository of extremely specialized plant life and require very specific conditions to develop. Lke any ecosytem they are susceptible to ecological changes induced naturally or by human activity.en_US
