Description: Local Name: Aphrodisias, South Necropolis Local Informant: Mahmut Erdoğan (83 years old) Local Information: Mahmut, owner of field, says that Kenan Erim dug up 4 sarcophagi, now in museum, in the south edge of the field. Latitude: 37.41.44.1 Longitude: 28.43.40.8 Elevation: 517m Dimensions: Total W: 1.98 m; H: 0.38 m; D: 0.94 m; letter H: 0.02 m–0.03 m ** Fragment 1: p. W: 1.37 m ** Fragment 2: p. W: 0.64 m Description: Lid preserved in two pieces. Found on the road several meters away from each other, near tomb E022 and large architectural blocks. ** (1.) Preserves more than half of the lid, including right short side. ** (2.) Preserves left short side, joins with Fragment 1. ** Sarcophagus lid with an undecorated roof and pediments, rounded uncarved corner acroteria, and simple bevel molding around all four sides. One line of inscription on lip of Fragment 1, with rather sloppy lettering and lunate epsilons. Finds: Ceramics and late style tile in area
