Prof. Haiping Yan, director of UCLA’s China-US Media and Performance Programs, received China’s 1980-1981 top prize in drama for her historical play titled Li Shimin, Prince of Qin, and CNN cited her in 1999 as one of “six most influential Chinese cultural figures” for her scholarly and creative works. Yan is collaborating with the University on two projects. She will deliver a public talk on “Shifting Views of Shanghai: Changing China, Changing Lives” at noon Oct. 3, at the Institute for the Humanities, 520 Rackham Bldg., 915 E. Washington St.

And the U-M Press will publish her new book on performance of transnationalisms.
Her lecture is in conjunction with the exhibition Shifting Views: Chinese Urban Dcumentary Photography (Sept. 12- Oct. 21, 2005). The exhibition of works by seven Chinese photographers is open in the Institute’s gallery in the Osterman Common Room, noon – 8 pm Thursdays and Fridays; Mondays – Wednesdays by appointment.
