Albin J. Zak III, whose scholarly interests include
jazz, rock, and concert music of the twentieth century, joined the
School of Music faculty in 1997. He received a bachelor's in music
degree and a master's in music degree in composition from the New
England Conservatory, as well as a bachelor's degree in contemporary
improvisation. He earned a doctorate in musicology from the Graduate
Center of the City University of New York. His publications include
"The Velvet Underground Companion" (Schirmer Books) and
"Cutting Tracks, Making Records: The Poetics of Rock",
which is forthcoming from University of California Press. Mr. Zak
is also a recording engineer, record producer, and a songwriter.
