- Description:
- As part of a project to develop side impact test procedures for evaluating wheelchairs, wheelchair tiedowns and occupant restraint systems (WTORS), and vehicle-based occupant protection systems for wheelchair seating stations, we created validated finite element (FE) models to support procedure development. Models were constructed using LS-DYNA. Dynamic sled tests were performed to validate the FE models of surrogate fixtures and commercial hardware. Validated FE models were developed for the Surrogate wheelchair base (SWCB), Surrogate wheelchair for side impact (SWCSI), a manual wheelchair (Ki Mobility Catalyst 5), and a power wheelchair (Quantum Rehab Edge 2.0). Additional FE models of a heavy-duty anchor meeting the Universal Docking Interface Geometry (UDIG), surrogate four-point strap tiedowns (SWTORS), a traditional docking station, and the surrogate wall fixture were also developed.

- Description:
- Inland lakes play a critical role in ecosystem stability, and robust validation of lake models is essential for understanding their dynamics. While remote sensing data can assist with lake surface temperature validation, in situ data typically provides more accurate, reliable data not limited to only the lake surface. However, in situ temperature data for many individual lakes, particularly in North America, is difficult for researchers to quickly access in a standardized format. This database offers a well-organized collection of in situ near-surface and subsurface temperatures from 134 sites divided among 29 large North American inland lakes collected from a variety of sources. The database includes multiple subsurface temperatures throughout the depth profile of 84 of these sites, providing comprehensive data for lake model evaluation. All lakes selected for this database are large enough (over approximately 30 km^2 to be represented by large-scale operational weather models, supporting robust lake model validation efforts on the lakes that have the greatest impact on climatology.

- Description:
- We conducted a mixed-methods study to understand how financial incentive programs impact transitions to cover cropping in Michigan. Michigan farms span a wide range of soil types, climate conditions, and cropping systems that create opportunities for cover crop adoption in the state. We tested the relationship between Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) payments for cover crops and cover crop adoption between 2008-2019, as measured by remote sensing. Panel fixed effects regressions showed that EQIP increased winter cover crop presence. Every EQIP dollar for cover crops was associated with a 0.01 hectare increase in winter cover, while each hectare enrolled in an EQIP contract for cover crops was associated with a 0.86 – 0.93 hectare increase in winter cover.

- The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) requires researchers to post individual participant data (IPD) plans for interventional clinical trials with registration in order to be eligible for publication in its member journals. This study looked at how researchers interpret the ICMJE requirements and the related prompts for information used by ClinicalTrials.gov. This data consists of the analyzed contents of the IPD plans that researchers at the University of Michigan (U-M) submitted with trial registrations for the first 27 months that the 2019 requirement was in effect.

The reward value of food can be understood in terms of wanting, liking, and salience. Little is understood about infant response to the reward value of food, or its predictors, particularly prenatally. This project sought to understand whether prenatal factors during pregnancy predict infant reward response to food, as measured by questionnaires in early infancy.

- The H2O concentration and H2O/Ce ratio in olivine-hosted melt inclusions are high (H2O up to 1410 ppm; H2O/Ce up to 77) in lunar sample 74220 but lower (H2O up to 430 ppm; H2O/Ce up to 9.4) in all other lunar samples studied before this work. This difference is absent for other volatiles (F, S, and Cl) in melt inclusions in 74220 and other lunar samples. Because H2O (or H) is a critical volatile component with significant ramifications on the origin and evolution of the Moon, it is important to understand what causes such a large gap in H2O/Ce ratio between 74220 and other lunar samples. Two explanations have been advanced. One is that volcanic product in sample 74220 has the highest cooling rate and thus best preserved H2O in melt inclusions compared to melt inclusions in other samples. The other explanation is that sample 74220 is a localized heterogeneity enriched in some volatiles. To distinguish the two possibilities, here we present new data from three rapidly cooled lunar samples: olivine-hosted glassy melt inclusions (OHMIs) in 74220 regolith and 79135 regolith breccia, and pyroxene-hosted glassy melt inclusions (PHMIs) in 15597 pigeonite basalts. If the gap is due to the difference in cooling rates, samples with cooling rates between 74220 and other studied lunar samples should have preserved intermediate H2O concentrations and H2O/Ce ratios. Our results show that melt inclusions in 79135 and 15597 contain high H2O concentrations (up to 969 ppm in 79135 and up to 793 ppm in 15597) and high H2O/Ce ratios (up to 21 in 79135 and up to 13 in 15997). Combined with literature data, we confirm that H2O/Ce ratios of different lunar samples are positively correlated to the cooling rates and independent of the type of mare basalts. Our work bridges the big gap in H2O/Ce ratio among 74220 and other lunar samples. We hence reinforce the interpretation that the lunar sample with the highest cooling rate best represents pre-eruptive volatiles in lunar basalts due to the least degassing. H2O, F, P, S and Cl concentrations in the lunar primitive mantle are also estimated in this work.

- Snake venom research has historically focused on front-fanged species (Viperidae and Elapidae), limiting our knowledge of venom evolution in rear-fanged snakes across their ecologically-diverse phylogeny. Three finger toxins (3FTxs) are a known neurotoxic component in the venoms of some rear-fanged snakes (Colubrinae, Colubridae), but it is unclear how prevalent 3FTxs are both in expression within venom glands and more broadly among colubrine species. Here, we used a transcriptomic approach to characterize the venom expression profiles of four species of colubrine snakes from Neotropics that were dominated by 3FTx expression (in the genera Chironius, Oxybelis, Rhinobothryum, and Spilotes) and reconstructed the gene trees of 3FTxs. Overall, our results highlight the importance of exploring the venoms of understudied species in reconstructing the full evolutionary history of toxins across the tree of life.

- GRAND is a five-year, cluster randomized controlled trial. The study is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov, [ID#: NCT04033003] and is a collaboration between University of Michigan in the United States and the Dodowa Health Research Center in Ghana. , The study setting for GRAND is four districts (Akwapim North, Yilo Krobo, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, and Lower Manya Krobo) within the Eastern Region of Ghana. Health facilities were selected based the number ANC registrants per month and average gestational age of women at registration in each facility., and Facilities were then matched based on facility type, district, and number of monthly ANC registrants. A cluster randomized controlled trial was conducted in 14 facilities in four districts of the Eastern Region of Ghana. Health facilities were randomized using a matched pairs design; each pair was similar in the number of deliveries and average gestational age of the women at enrollment in antenatal care. The locations of the facilities were far enough apart to avoid cross-group contamination. In each pair of facilities, one was randomly assigned to the intervention (G-ANC) and the other to the control (I-ANC). Recruitment began July 2019 and ended when enrollment targets were met. Data collection ended July 2023 when data collection was complete.

- In this study, we experimentally tested for the effects of four simulated predator cues on defensive displays in two species of South American calico snakes (genus Oxyrhopus). We found that juvenile snakes were both more likely to respond and to respond more strongly than adults and that displays were most common in response to tactile stimuli than to other treatments. However, we also found broad similarity across both simulated predator treatments and species in the components used in each snake’s defensive display, suggesting a high degree of stereotyping. This research suggests an important role for both ontogeny and intensity of predation risk in structuring variation in defensive behavior in Neotropical snakes and emphasizes the foundational importance of context dependence in conceptual frameworks for understanding predator-prey interactions. and *On January 4, 2024, “Supplementary_material.pdf” was replaced with an updated version that has slightly different versions of Figures S4 and S8 after an error in code was corrected. - A growing body of work has linked key biological activities to the mechanical properties of cellular membranes, and as a means of identification. Here, we present a computational approach to simulate and compare the vibrational spectra in the low-THz region for mammalian and bacterial membranes, investigating the effect of membrane asymmetry and composition, as well as the conserved frequencies of a specific cell. We find that asymmetry does not impact the vibrational spectra, and the impact of sterols depends on the mobility of the components of the membrane. We demonstrate that vibrational spectra can be used to distinguish between membranes and, therefore, could be used in identification of different organisms. The method presented, here, can be immediately extended to other biological structures (e.g., amyloid fibers, polysaccharides, and protein-ligand structures) in order to fingerprint and understand vibrations of numerous biologically-relevant nanoscale structures.

- Amyloid nanofibers are abundant in microorganisms and are integral components of many biofilms, serving various purposes, from virulent to structural. Nonetheless, the precise characterization of bacterial amyloid nanofibers has been elusive, with incomplete and contradicting results. The present work focuses on the molecular details and characteristics of PSMa1-derived functional amyloids present in Staphylococcus aureus biofilms, using a combination of computational and experimental techniques, to develop a model that can aid the design of compounds to control amyloid formation. Results from molecular dynamics simulations, guided and supported by spectroscopy and microscopy, show that PSMa1 amyloid nanofibers present a helical structure formed by two protofilaments, have an average diameter of about 12 nm, and adopt a left-handed helicity with a periodicity of approximately 72 nm. The chirality of the self-assembled nanofibers, an intrinsic geometric property of its constituent peptides, is central to determining the fibers' lateral growth.

- This is a process evaluation of the RCT, Group Antenatal Care and Delivery project (GRAND) to identify and document patient, provider, and system barriers and facilitators to program implementation. Using both quantitative and qualitative methods, potential and actual influences on the quality and conduct of the program's operations, implementation, and service delivery were identified. Only the seven (7) sites randomized to the Group ANC (G-ANC) intervention were included for collection of process evaluation data since the evaluation was of G-ANC implementation. Data were collected from August 2019 to November 2020 and included both quantitative and qualitative data sources.

Neural features and error labels used to train error classifiers for each day used in the study 2. Trial data from an example experiment day (Monkey N, Day 6), with runs for offline calibration, online brain control, error monitoring, and error correction. The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of error signals in motor cortex to improve brain-machine interface (BMI) performance for control of two finger groups. - Our research focuses on providing a fully-imputed map of the worldwide total electron content with high resolution and spatial-temporal smoothness. We fill in the missing values of the original Madrigal TEC maps via estimating the latent feature of each latitude and local time along the 2-D grid and give initial guess of the missing regions based on pre-computed spherical harmonics map. The resulting TEC map has high imputation accuracy and the ease of reproducing. All data are in HDF5 format and are easy to read using the h5py package in Python. The TEC map is grouped in folders based on years and each file contains a single-day data of 5-min cadence. Each individual TEC map is of size 181*361. and WARNING: 2023-12-01 the data file for 2019-Jan-03 has badly fitted values. Please avoid using it. All other days' files are ready to use.

This dataset is generated to train a behavioral cloning framework from gameplay screen captures and keystrokes of an "expert" player. The RL agent that is trained using "RL Baselines Zoo package" acts as the "expert" player, whose decision making process we desire to learn. In addition to behavioral cloning experiments, this dataset is further used to demonstrate the efficacy of a novel incremental tensor decomposition algorithm on image-based data streams.
