  • This dataset includes core physical properties (e.g., bulk density, porosity, P-wave velocity) and magnetic susceptibility data for the jumbo piston core MV0811-14JC (34.2818°N 120.0360°W, water depth: 582 m) measured on the multisensor track (MST). MV0811-14JC was collected by the research vessel R/V Melville off Southern California in 2008.11. The study is supported by NSF OCE-1304327.

Overview: This dataset includes core physical properties (e.g., bulk density, porosity, P-wave velocity) and magnetic susceptibility data for MV0811-14JC measured on the multisensor track (MST, Geotek Multisensor Core Logger).

Methods: MV0811-14JC contains 10 sections. MST and magnetic susceptibility data were first obtained using the Geotek core logger on board Melville at 1-cm interval in November, 2008. In 2010, MST and magnetic susceptibility of the first 3 sections were measured again at 0.5-cm interval using the Geotek core logger at the LacCore Facility, University of Minnesota.

This folder contains three spreadsheets.
1. 'MV0811_14JC_magsus_2010.01.11_section 1-3.csv': Magnetic susceptibility for the first three sections measured in 2010 at LacCore;
2. 'MV0811_14JC_MST_2010.01.11_section 1-3.csv': MST data for the first three sections measured in 2010 at LacCore;
3. 'MV0811_14JC_MST_magsus_2008.11.14.csv': MST and magnetic susceptibility data measured on board Melville in 2008.

For both files, machine calibration data are included as well.
'before cal' and 'cal sect' refer to the sensor responses before calibration and during the calibration stage using the calibration section, respectively.
