Methodology
  • At a road cut section at Good Harbor Bay, Cook County, Minnesota, and along Cut Face Creek on the northeast part of the road section, 89 samples were taken with a hammer after removing about 10 centimeters of rock from the outcrop surface. Analysis was done with a PerkinElmer Optima 3300RL ICP-AES System and a PerkinElmer 5000 ICP-MS system for trace elements. A James Smith Model F Point Count machine for point count data and a Hitachi S3000 SEM for SEM and EDX images were also used. Dried samples were used for Munsell Soil colors. These analyses were done at Royal Holloway, University of London.
Description
  • Samples from a road cut section were analyzed. New paleosols were discovered.
