Methodology
  • The movies were generated from computer simulations of fluid-structure interactions.
Description
  • The research involved vortex-panel simulations of fluid-structure interactions. A file Captions_for_SpanwiseVariationsMovies.pdf is included that describes the movies.

These movies were generated from simulations of membranes moving in 3D fluid flows to accompany the article "Spanwise variations in membrane flutter dynamics," soon to be published on arxiv.org. The numerical method to solve for the coupled equations for the flow and the membranes' dynamics is also described in the article. The movies were generated by plotting the simulation data in Matlab and saving the files in the .mp4 format.

The file Captions_for_SpanwiseVariationsMovies.pdf describes what is shown in each movie. The boundary conditions and variables in that file are defined in the article. In particular, the boundary condition FFFF means all membrane edges are fixed, while FRFR means the leading and trailing edges are fixed and the side edges are free. The initial conditions asymm. and symm. are defined in the article.
