  • The survey team visited the area around Sajavakho on 17 June 2009. In the hills southeast of the town, we noted several points of interest.
Description
  • The south side of the hill crossed by the Baku-Supsa pipeline (A009) slopes down toward a stream (east of the pipeline). Across the stream lies a cornfield in which a great deal of pottery is visible on the surface. The pottery is mostly Mediaeval but includes some possibly Hellenistic pithos fragments. The photo in this record shows the stream near the cornfield.

  • Archaeological research in the area around Sajavakho began with limited excavations in 1896. In 1958 a survey carried out by the Kutaisi State Historical-Ethnographical Museum identified pithos graves at Sajavakho.
