Work Description

Title: S'Urachi Site-Based Archaeological Survey 2015
Attribute NameValues
Methodology
  • This data was produced by the site-based archaeological survey at the nuraghe S'Urachi in west-central Sardinia (San Vero Milis, Oristano, Sardinia). The survey was carried out in 2015 as a part of the ongoing Progetto S'Urachi, an archaeological project that aims to understand daily life around the monumental Bronze Age tower of S'Urachi during the later occupation of the landscape over the course of the 1st millennium BCE. During the site-based survey in 2015, we systematically opened a series of 63 survey units on a 20 x 20 m grid across the eastern and southern portions of the archaeological site. Surface and immediate sub-surface materials were collected from within these survey units, which were 2 square meters in area and approximately 10 cm deep each. The ancient and modern ceramic, glass, lithics, faunal bone, and other materials were then studied in the laboratory.
Description
  • Included here are 1) a detailed description of each of the dataset's components, 2) a database of all finds from the 2015 survey, 3) a database of faunal bone compiled by specialist Damià Ramis, 4) a description of the finds by category to accompany these databases, 5) a PDF of notes taken in the field, 6) field photographs of survey units, 7) object photographs of all finds, and 8) drawings of diagnostic ceramics by time period.
