README FILE FOR “Dogon Tebul Ure audio files“ Background: These audio files are recordings of people speaking the Tebul Ure language, which is part of the Dogon language family. It is spoken in a cluster of villages located at the top of the eastern cliffs of the Dogon (Bandiagara) plateau in east central Mali, and in more recently established satellite villages at the base of the cliffs adjoining the otherwise Jamsay-speaking Bamba village cluster. The recordings were made by Jeffrey Heath in nearby Mori village on the plateau, in 2015. Due to problems with our regular recording equipment, the recordings were made directly onto a Macintosh computer, in .mov format (later converted to .wav for archiving.) The inventory of recordings is as follows: 2015 texts, recorded by Heath in Mori (on market day), August 2015 A = Mamoudou Guindo, B = Oumar Guindo Tebul 2015 01 tale, hyena & hare 1 Tebul 2015 02 tale, hyena & hare 2 Tebul 2015 03 herding Tebul 2015 04 farming (not transcribed, duration 04:34) Tebul 2015 05 water Tebul 2015 06 exoduss (adventure narrative) As of this writing (mid 2018), Jeffrey Heath plans to complete the reference grammar of this language (currently in draft form) in 2019 or 2020. Transcriptions and translations of some or all of these recordings will be included at the end of grammar. If Jeffrey Heath is unable to complete and disseminate these transcriptions and translations by the end of 2020, he grants permission to others to transcribe, translate, or otherwise analyse these recordings.
