dc.description.abstractHistorian of Superior Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan. Contains transcriptions of 1941 rural school histories of Superior Township requested by county superintendent of schools Julius Haab with notes by Williams. Includes histories of Frains Lake School, Free Church School, Crippen School, Gale School, Bennett School, Kimmel School, Town Line School, Dixboro School, Fowler School, and Geer School. Histories were typically written by teachers and consist of references to notable families and events and regular activities in the respective districts as well as descriptions of buildings and grounds, lists of previous teachers and current students, and overviews of the curriculum and socio-economic conditions over time. Includes details on 19th century teacher salaries and certification in Michigan, classroom conditions, school supplies, textbooks, and recreation activites and games. Numerou references to the Washtenaw Intermediate School District records at the Bentley Historical Library.en_US
