dc.description.abstractDigitized versions of photographs scanned and arranged by Mandell's son. Contains images of Mandell in uniform with fellow soldiers and posing with family members as well as images of of Wesermunde, Germany, which was heavily damaged by allied bombing. Includes assorted images of a large ship, a damaged cathedral, a young woman [perhaps of Mandell's English or French girlfriend, whose photographs were referenced in his correspondence], Nazi insignia, and Buchenwald after liberation . Also features an image of Hitler hanged in effigy by liberated political prisoners at Buchenwald, with a sign proclaiming, 'Hitler Must Die so that Germany Lives.'en_US
