Las dos versiones de "Rinconete y Cortadillo" y "El Celoso Extremeno": Edicion critica y estudio bibliografico.

Abstract

The first part of this dissertation deals with the vicissitudes of the Porras de la Camara manuscript, which included a different version of the novels Rinconete y Cortadillo and El celoso extremeno, first published by Cervantes in 1613. The historical research is focused on the circumstances involved in the discovery of the manuscript in the San Isidro library, the commentary and statements of the few people who witnessed its existence, their descriptions of its content, the publication of the manuscript novels in the Gabinete de lectura IV and V, and its later disappearance. The second part of the dissertation presents a critical edition of both versions of Rinconete y Cortadillo and El celoso extremeno: (1) The critical edition of the printed versions was carried out on the basis of textual criticism in a neo-Lachmannian mode, in which all the copies of the first printed edition (Madrid 1613) have been studied and compared to the following five editions (Madrid 1614, Pamplona 1614 and 1615, Brussels 1614 and Milan 1615). (2) For the manuscript version of the novels, the critical edition was based on the original text of the Gabinete de lectura published by Isidoro Bosarte in 1788, and takes into account the only two modern editions that derive from it. (3) The critical texts of the novels reflect the fact that some editorial interventions have been made contemplating the similarities between the two versions.
