Abstract

Audio recordings of a series of oral history interviews Andrew Edge, Laura Edge's son, conducted with Lawrence L. Witt, his grandfather about his experiences during World War II. The interviews were conducted on July 22, 2000, August 24, 2000, and August 1, 2001. The first interview covers the period from the bombing of Pearl Harbor through Army Air Force training in various locations in the U.S. and the assignment of his crew, with descriptions of each of them. Also describes some of his missions overseas. The second interview discusses his experience in Europe, with more detail on his missions and getting shot down and becoming a Prisoner of War. Also includes detail on training missions in the U.S. and Europe. The third interview describes his experience in the POW camp, including food, housing, activities, church services, and other aspects of life there, such as interactions between prisoners and the guards.
