The work of select foundations is gradually expanding beyond conventional program funding to an "embedded funding" approach, in which funders dig in and dig deeper to foster community. In this article, we describe general characteristics of the embedded funding approach, how it differs from conventional efforts, delineate several key methods involved, and explain the relevance of the approach within the context of the challenges facing some neighborhoods.en_US
