Carol Amster is interviewed by Michael Brooks on 4/21/2009 at 9:00:00 AM in Ann Arbor, MI. Michael talks to his friend Carol (78) about the development of the Jewish community in Ann Arbor and working together at Hillel. Interview log: 1:00 Carol and Michael talk about meeting while working at Hillel at the University of Michigan. 9:30 Carol talks about moving to Ann Arbor in the 1960s- She remembers that there was one chinese restaurant and one place to get bagels (Ralph's). 13:30 Carol remembers the first time she celebrated high holidays in Ann Arbor. She moved to Jackson for ten years and found her passion for Judaism- worked for United Jewish Appeal. 17:17 Michael remembers deciding whether to move to Ann Arbor or Boston. 20:23 Carol talks about the development of Temple Beth Emeth. It was controversial at the time because Beth Israel was conservative. 29:30 Carol talks about assimilating in Ann Arbor-it's inclusive. 36:40 Carol and Michael remember Herb- Carol's husband.
