dc.description.abstract | Israel Woronoff (friend) is interviewed by Marilyn Gallatin (friend) on 4/20/2009 at 11:00:00 AM in Ann Arbor, MI. Israel (86) and Marilyn (96) talk about their lives as part of the Jewish community in Ann Arbor, anti-semitism they witnessed, and life today. Interview log: :50 Marilyn talks about coming to Ann Arbor for the University of Michigan in 1953- she was a single mother of two daughters. 6:35 Israel talks about coming to the University of Michigan after returning home from WWII. 7:30 Israel remembers meeting his wife, Faye, at Hillel. 13:00 Marilyn talks about following the Jewish faith because her parents were Jewish. It's a privilege to be a Jew. 14:25 Marilyn talks about becoming a single mother after her first husband left. 17:12 Israel talks about meeting Marilyn- he was working in a school where she was registering her children. 18:12 Israel talks about how Faye was active in the Jewish community and how Marilyn's husband was also active. 23:20 Israel asks Faye about experience anti-semitism. Faye remembers being bullied at school. 24:30 Israel remembers his brother being rejected from medical school because he was Jewish. 25:40 Israel remembers anti-semitism in the army during WWII. He tells a story about a southern officer who spoke to him in private and told him I'm Jewish too. He asked Israel to report the anti-semitic soldiers and the officer took care of it. Israel was shocked that the officer was Jewish. 33:40 Marilyn remembers being refused rental property because they wouldn't rent to Jewish people. 37:40 Israel and Marilyn talk about what their most proud of.
