dc.description.abstract | BSN graduates' lived experiences in providing culturally competent care was the discovery goal established. Using the organizing framework of Leininger's theory of culture care diversity and universality through qualitative phenomenological study, sixteen professional registered nurses currently employed in a healthcare setting were recruited as participants. Through adaptation of the theorist's open-ended inquiry guide in conjunction with the Sunrise Enabler, Colaizzi's method aided data collection and initial analysis. The qualitative research software program NVivo generated further derivation of significant statements and formulations of meanings and themes from audiotaped interviews and researcher observations. Predictions on the basis of findings include greater understanding of BSN graduates' lived experiences of cultural competency and support for future curriculum development by nursing faculty to ensure provision of culturally congruent care satisfying and beneficial to clients. | |
