dc.description.abstract(Part of Introduction) When I started this portion of my masters, I decided to write about how the medical community and fat women get along. Little did I know that a lot of literature is available on the topic, probably more than I can read in my lifetime. Nevertheless, I persevered, thinking that I might be able to add something since I am an overweight woman. I am also a refugee of a registered nurse program. I went as far as becoming a student nurse before I saw the light and realized I was not nursing material. I figured that with my first-hand experience as a large woman and my somewhat limited medical background, perhaps I could really put a new slant on my topic. All of my experience has basically left me as a woman who just happens to know enough about medicine to be curious about what is going on, but not know enough to keep my mouth shut when asked my opinion.
