The purpose of this thesis is to explore welfare capitalism. This exploration will take a two part approach. First a general analysis of welfare capitalism will examine the origins of welfare capitalism, why it was developed, how it was implemented, and finally survey a handful of companies which practiced welfare capitalism. The second part of this thesis, which is based on primary research, consists of a case study of welfare capitalism as practiced by C.H. Wills and Company in Marysville, Michigan.
