One of the planning models applied to this project encompasses "social marketing, which seeks to develop and integrate marketing concepts with other approaches to influence behaviors that benefit individuals and communities for the greater social good" (Kubacki, 2016). Studies have shown strong supporting evidence in increasing physical activity among adults when social marketing is used as the approach to a health intervention. When utilizing the social marketing approach for health interventions, "presenting health information in a manner that enhances understanding and encourages action will ensure optimal utilization of a health organization's limited resources" (McKay-Nesbitt, 2014). Therefore, it is proposed that an already existing walking path, on The University of Michigan-Flint campus, be enhanced with the implementation of health promotion messages for all users to benefit and enjoy. Taking advantage of an already in place walking path and spicing it up, by adding health related educational messages are small steps that can lead to big change. The project proposal aims to increase participation in physical activity, increase the utilization of the University of Michigan-Flint walking path, increase health education through health promotion messages and increase, positive attitudes towards the walking.
