Introduction: This paper reviews the significance of HCAHPS knowledge of current employees at St. John Providence hospital in Novi and Southfield. The paper will access a baseline of HCAHPS knowledge, and then a recommendation will be written for community partners at St. John Providence, so they can implement HCAHPS into their new patient orientation. Methods: A non-validated survey tool was created to understand employees' current HCAHPS knowledge, look at which domains are used most frequently, and to compare hospitals in Novi and Southfield, to see if there is a difference in their understanding of HCAHPS. HCAHPS awareness, patient experience, cultural awareness and disparities were all assessed. Results: Of the 127 participants surveyed, 67 were from Novi and 60 were from Southfield. In Novi, 51 % were aware and 49% were not. In Southfield, 50% were aware, 50% were not. Employees were higher education levels, and longer employment was more aware, as opposed to employees with lower education, and shorter employment. Conclusion: It is hoped that this study will help St. John Providence provide a better understanding of where current employee's HCAHPS knowledge stands, and they can introduce cultural awareness, and a no passing call light zone into their new patient orientation.
