During an eight-week period, from May 7th – June 30th, 2018, Jordan T. Mizell, an intern from the University of Michigan School of Public Health worked with the Ministry of Social Development, Housing and Community Empowerment to collect information from various stakeholders invested in the improvement of the quality of life for older persons in Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. Through reviewing literature, visiting geriatric homes on Grenada and Carriacou, attending consultations, and conducting interviews with representatives from government agencies and organizations that work directly or indirectly with older persons, recommendations for policy, a strategic plan of action, and the improvement of the assessments for geriatric homes and geriatric care within the Homes have been generated. These recommendations will inform the Ministry to address policy, programs, services and the implementation of key strategies needed to better serve the population of older persons in Grenada. These recommendations will also inform efforts to improve the service delivery framework at the Geriatric Homes in Grenada and Carriacou, and the assessments conducted at each home. In addition, a database of agencies and organizations serving older persons has been created.en_US
