dc.description.abstractIn this report, we investigate why systems-change strategy is crucial to address persistent problems facing society today including but not limited to climate change, biodiversity loss, income inequality, and racial divides. After extensive research and in-depth interviews with thought leaders on systems change and collaboration, it is clear that a new way of working together will be needed to address the threats society faces. We also show that forward-looking leaders must develop and tap into new ways of operating to employ the changemaking power of their positions. Effective systems-level change requires a sense of interconnectedness and shared sense of purpose to operate for the long-term benefit of society. However, it must begin with personal leadership evolution. Systems change is a concept frequently mentioned but rarely explained in the context of contemporary management challenges. Thus, this report has been compiled to 1) help leaders understand systems change and how it can be accomplished, and 2) provide concrete strategies for maximizing social and environmental impact through effective precompetitive collaboration. Precompetitive collaboration functions as a form of system change because it allows multiple actors to coordinate and address root causes of issues from multiple vantage points simultaneously, through a uniquely iterative and experimental collaborative framework. We hope this report inspires leaders to imagine what is possible, view people as interconnected partners on the journey to positive impact, and build a new business ecosystem for the benefit of all.en_US
