This database contains 827 phonology inventories of languages and dialects currently spoken in China, collected by San DUANMU and YI Li during 2013-2014, through an exhaustive search of publications in Chinese in the Asian Library of the University of Michigan. Each inventory contains the following information: 1. Area: The region or dialect family. 2. Dialect code. 3. Initial: The inventory of consonants that can occur in the onset of a syllable. 4. Final: The inventory of GVX, where G is a medial glide and VX the rime of a syllable. 5. Tone: The inventory of tones. 6. Location/name: The city of a Chinese dialect, or the name of a minority language. 7. Source: The publication from which an inventory was collected. 8. Language family. Items 1-5 are in phonetic transcriptions. Items 6-8 are in Chinese (as in the original). Some sources also contain a full inventory of syllables. This information is not included in this dataset.en_US
