This report explores the region’s potential to attract investments through the voluntary carbon markets to store carbon in nature-based solutions like trees, underground through geologic storage and other emerging techniques. Historically, the Great Lakes region has been a hub for innovation and forward-looking policy. As a result, the region is positioned in a central role to assist companies, governments and others work to meet their carbon reduction goals through carbon offset markets. Voluntary carbon markets are expected to grow dramatically in the years ahead, and combined with the region’s distinctive natural resources, this represents a tremendous environmental and economic opportunity. This report assess nature-based and engineered solutions available in the region for high quality, durable carbon storage that can be supplied to the carbon markets.en_US
