QuickApply: A Modern Rental Application

Abstract

QuickApply is a web application that aims to streamline the rental application process. When renting an apartment or house, renters must first submit an application to the landlord that provides information including their current address, social security number/driver’s license number, and employment history. This information is used to perform background checks and screen applicants. Landlords typically request this information through email and require applicants to download a pdf, fill out their information, and send the completed application back over email. This process is inefficient and insecure: landlords must maintain their own system on the status of all applications and applicants’ information, and sensitive information such as SSN is sent over email. QuickApply is a new, modern rental application platform. The website allows renters to easily fill out their information online without needing to download pdfs and resend through email. Landlords then have access to a centralized dashboard where they can view all submitted applications and keep track of the acceptance status for each application. This project used an iterative design cycle to create an easy to use, accessible product that fits both renters’ and landlords’ needs.
