Three trumpet recitals were given in lieu of a dissertation. Friday, November 18th at 8:00pm; Northside Community Church, assisted by Dr. Liz Ames, piano. I presented a lecture recital on Trumpet as a Vocal Instrument. The recital included information on pedagogical practices which focus on “singing” through the trumpet and featured lyrically focused music, all by female composers. Program: Song Without Words by Sofia Gubaidalina, Trumpet Songs by Jennifer Higdon, Song Without Words by Augusta Read Thomas and Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra by Alexandra Pakhmutova. Wednesday, January 25th at 7:30pm; The University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre and Dance, McIntosh Theatre. Assisted by Dr. Lis Ames, piano; Jack Smid, Trumpet; Paulina Aguirre, horn; Matthew Wise, trombone; Nathan Shook, Tuba. This program surveys standard repertoire for the trumpet and brass quintet written by French composers. Program; Quatre Variations Sul Un Theme De Domenico Scarlatti by Marcel Bitsch, Concerto Pour Trompette et Orchestre By Henri Tomasi, Syrinx by Claude Debussy and Suite Impromptu by Andre Lafosse.
Saturday, March 25th at 3:00pm; Northside Community Church. Assisted by Dr. Joshua Marzan. piano; Dr. Nick Balla, conductor; Dr. Emmei Ji, clarinet; Jake Wellington-Byrne, bassoon; Will Thain, violin; Emani Barber, bass; Matthew Wise, Trombone; Gavin Ryan, Percussion; Bret Magliola, Trumpet. This recital was played in dedication to all of the wonderful mentors I have had the chance to study with throughout my matriculation. Each piece has a sentimental connection to each of my teachers. Program; Under Western Skies by Kevin Mckee, Hyfrydol Aspects by Terry Everson, Sonata For Trumpet and Piano by Paul Hindemith and L’Histoire du Soldat (suite) by Igor Stravinsky.
