dc.description.abstractRecital 1: Living American Voices The first dissertation recital took place on December 10th, 2023, 3:00pm, with Minji Kim on piano and Ryo Usami on violin, within the Fine Arts Building, Northern Virginia Community College, Alexandria Campus, in Alexandria, Virginia. The program featured Three Scenes for Solo Clarinet by Shulamit Ran; DASH – for Clarinet, Violin and Piano by Jennifer Higdon; Tibetan Dance for Clarinet, Violin and Piano by Bright Sheng; Peace for Clarinet and Piano by Jessie Montgomery; the dream forgotten… for Clarinet and Piano by Jacob Bancks; and Sonata for Clarinet and Piano by Amanda Harberg. Recital 2: Vienna 1900 – The Turn of the Century Austrian Soundworld The second dissertation recital took place on February 11th, 2024, 6:00pm, with Mark Irchai on piano, at Cherrydale United Methodist Church, in Arlington, Virginia. The program featured Three Selected Songs for Clarinet and Piano (arr. Kornfeil) by Gustav Mahler; Four Pieces for Clarinet and Piano, Op. 5 by Alban Berg; Fantasies on Poems by Richard Dehmel for Clarinet and Piano, Op. 9 by Alexander von Zemlinsky; Romance, Tarantella and Album Leaf for Clarinet and Piano by Max Reger; and Sonata in Eb Major for Clarinet and Piano, Op. 120, No. 2 by Johannes Brahms. Recital 3: Contemporary Soundscapes of the British Isles The third dissertation recital took place on May 2nd, 2024, 8:00pm, with Minji Kim on piano and Brandon LePage on flute in Stamps Auditorium, Walgreen Drama Center, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. The program featured Shivelight for Clarinet and Piano by Sarah Francis Jenkins; Clarinet Sonata by Herbert Howells; Sketches from a Bagpiper’s Album by Judith Weir; and Trio for Flute, Clarinet and Piano by Elizabeth Poston.
