dc.description.abstract | During laparotomies (abdominal open surgeries) medical professionals struggle with clear and consistent cavity visibility, especially in resource-constrained environments. Current retractors enhance abdominal access but struggle with adaptability to patient sizes, easy sterilization, and low costs. We aim to enhance surgical efficacy by developing and testing a self-retaining device that is versatile, easy to use, and affordable. The device will reduce the necessary personnel while ensuring patient safety and simple sterilization. By addressing these issues, the retractor will be deployable in low and medium-income hospitals including Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana. | |
