dc.description.abstract | The Arid House of the University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens is a community resource inaccessible to children and mobility device users. Corridors are hard to navigate and too narrow for wheelchairs. Displays, visually unappealing and plain, are out of view for short-statured individuals. With the help of accessibility coordinators, mobility device users, teachers, and educational and horticulture leaders from the gardens, the project group will redesign the house for safety, spatial, and aesthetic considerations. Additionally, the redesign will be ADA-compliant, improve traffic flow, provide an experience with storytelling, and uphold educational goals set by the State of Michigan. | |
