Chronically maintained (2-4 weeks) hypophysectomized or sham-operated adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were injected with vehicle or one of two doses of morphine. Motor activity was remotely recorded for 100 min after injection. Activity was markedly reduced by prior pituitary removal. This finding is consistent with previous studies utilizing other models of pituitary-opiate interactions and may shed light on findings from other paradigms.en_US
