The paper treats the elastic layer that is pressed uniformly against a half space and is subsequently subjected to a concentrated force tending to induce slip and separation between the bodies. The formulation, based on known results for discrete dislocations, reduces the problem to a coupled system of integral equations which is solved numerically. Various results of interest are given graphically.en_US
